An interactive 4-session parenting series for parents of preschoolers

Understand your child. Understand yourself.
Respond with greater calm, confidence and intention.

Parenting a young child can be both deeply rewarding and surprisingly challenging.

You can know all the right things to do and still find yourself losing patience, second-guessing your decisions, or reacting in ways that don’t feel like the parent you want to be.

Becoming a grounded parent isn’t about becoming a perfect parent. It’s about developing a deeper understanding of your child, gaining a greater awareness of yourself, and learning practical tools that help you respond with more calm, confidence and intention, especially when things get hard.

This four-session series brings together parenting education, self-reflection, positive parenting tools and coaching to help you do exactly that.

Join Marta D. Weiss, M.A., J.D. and fellow Kids By The Sea preschool parents on a 4-week journey of reflection, connection, and learning how to become a more grounded version of the parent you want to be.

Using a combination of effective parenting tools, journal prompts, coaching, and in-depth discussions to troubleshoot your unique dilemmas, Marta will guide you through an experiential journey to bring more clarity, knowledge and intention to your parenting and your relationship with your children.

About The Parenting Series:

This isn’t about perfect parenting. It's about finding clarity and ease in becoming the parent you want to be.

4 focused sessions · 6.5 hours of live, interactive learning and coaching · Small group · In-person in Encinitas

Parenting toddlers and preschool-aged children often asks us to grow and change alongside them. As we learn to attune to our children’s needs, we may also discover that we need to (re)attune to ourselves and to the values that guide our parenting.

In Becoming a Grounded Parent, you will have the space to learn, reflect, and integrate your own thoughts, feelings, and experiences around parenting. You will deepen your understanding of children’s developmental stages and temperaments, learn positive parenting approaches and practical tools, and explore what effective communication and boundaries can look like with preschool-aged children.

You will also have the support of a trained professional and a community of fellow parents as you explore the unique influences that shape—and sometimes get in the way of—how you want to parent.

We are surrounded by messages about how we should parent—from social media, experts, family, friends, and our own childhood experiences. Parenting information is abundant and easy to access, but we often have little time to pause and consider what we truly believe, what works for our individual child, and how we want to show up as parents.

This parenting series offers an opportunity to step back from the day-to-day demands of parenting, reflect, learn, and gain greater clarity about the parent you want to be.

The 4-Session Journey:

This isn’t just another parenting class.

Parenting advice is everywhere. What’s harder to find is a space where you can step back, understand what’s happening beneath your parenting patterns, learn practical tools, and get support applying them to your own family.

Session 1

Understand Your Child

2-hour opening session

What is really going on beneath the behavior?

We’ll explore child development, temperament, individual differences and the needs behind your child’s behavior.

You’ll begin developing a framework for understanding your child rather than simply applying generic parenting advice.

Session 2

Understand Yourself

1.5-hour session

What gets activated in you when parenting gets hard?

We’ll explore your own parenting patterns, expectations, triggers and experiences — and how they can shape the way you respond to your child.

This isn’t about blaming yourself. It’s about gaining the awareness that gives you more choice.

Session 3

Learn, Practice & Become More Grounded

1.5-hour session

What can you actually DO differently?

This is where understanding turns into practical parenting.

You’ll learn and practice positive parenting techniques and tools designed to help you:

  • strengthen connection and cooperation

  • communicate more effectively

  • set clear, respectful boundaries

  • respond to challenging behavior

  • navigate big emotions

  • reduce power struggles

  • support your child’s growing independence

  • stay grounded and regulated while parenting

We’ll also explore how these tools work together with what you’ve learned about your child and yourself — so that you’re not simply adding more techniques to your parenting toolbox, but learning when, why and how to use them.

Session 4

Bring It Home

1.5-hour session

This session brings everything together.

You’ll have the opportunity to bring your own parenting dilemmas into the group, troubleshoot challenging situations, receive coaching, and develop a personalized approach you can continue using at home.

We’ll revisit the concepts and tools from the series and explore how to adapt them to your child’s temperament, your family’s dynamics and the situations you find most challenging.

Marta’s group was a joy to be part of. Throughout the class, we were supported with learning, and valuable resources, while also being given time for reflection and the opportunity to receive thoughtful feedback on our individual experiences and journeys as parents. It was meaningful to share and learn together as a group, and it was a wonderful reminder that we are a village and we are not alone in parenting. Having such a comfortable, supportive, and open environment for sharing was incredibly refreshing and made possible by Marta’s teaching, wisdom, guidance, and facilitation. As a parent of two children with a 16-year age gap, I especially appreciated Marta’s ability to summarize and introduce valuable, current schools of thought around parenting and child development. The class gave me new perspectives that have continued to be meaningful. I’m very grateful for the experience and for the greater sense of community Marta’s group created.
